VEAM Objectives

The IFIP Working Group 7.6, Optimization-Based Computer Modeling and Design, considers high performance, computer-aided systems to support modeling, decision analysis, optimization and multi-criteria decision making. The working group has four separate, but related, focus areas:

Application areas of particular interest include telecommunications (network design, demand forecasting, performance measurement), production planning and scheduling, environmental planning, transportation logistics (network design, planning, scheduling), and electronic commerce.

The focus of this workshop is to convene leading researchers from all over the world to present and discuss recent advances in the area of ''virtual worlds'' and modeling. The three main threads underlying this theme are distributed decision technologies, knowledge science & management, and collaborative modeling as applied to real world problems.

Organizational Details

The number of participants in the workshop will be limited to 35 in order to ensure a rich dialogue and fruitful exchange of ideas. The workshop schedule will provide ample time for presentations, discussions, and subsequent interchanges.

Therefore, the number of presentations will be limited in order to avoid parallel sessions. Typical presentations will be 30 minutes in length to include at least 5 minutes for discussion; plenary and keynote presentations may run longer.
