Feature Issue of EJOR on
Advances in Complex Systems Modeling
Names and affiliations of Guest-Editors (in alphabetic order)
The scope of the feature issue
The feature issue focuses on innovative methods and tools supporting the
entire life-cycle of model development, maintenance and analysis, including
various modeling paradigms, techniques and tools. The methodology for modeling
and analysis of complex systems includes optimization-based approaches,
multi-criteria decision analysis, non-standard simulation and multi-agent
systems approaches. Modeling of uncertainty using uncertainty theories, such
as probability theory, fuzzy set theory and possibility theory, is an integral
part of the complex systems we are focusing on. Development of new
methodologies is closely related to real world applications. Application
areas of particular interest for this feature issue include telecommunication,
production planning and scheduling, logistics, transportation, environmental
policy-making, and electronic commerce. One particular focus is on virtual
worlds and modeling, including distributed decision technologies and
collaborative modeling.
Sources for papers
Authors of papers presented at the two workshops listed below, are
particularly invited to submit their full papers for this Feature Issue:
- The IFIP Working Group 7.6. Workshop on Virtual Environments for
Advanced Modeling, March 25-27, 2002, JAIST, Kanazawa, Japan.
- CSM'02, the 16th JISR-IIASA Workshop on Methodologies and Tools for
Complex System Modeling, IIASA, July 15-17, 2002, Laxenburg, Austria.
However, the Feature Issue is not limited to these two events.
The editors encourage all OR researchers and practitioners to submit
papers that present original contributions to Complex Systems Modeling
that are within the scope summarized above.
Submissions
Submission to the Feature Issue implies that the paper is not submitted to
any other journal at the same time.
All papers will be reviewed according to the EJOR standards.
The submitted papers should be written in English and they should follow the
EJOR guidelines.
The only exceptions from these guidelines are:
- The submission deadline:
the papers should be submitted by September 30, 2002.
- The address to which the papers should be submitted:
the papers should be emailed as PDF or PS files to Prof. H.-J. Sebastian:
Sebastian@or.rwth-aachen.de.
Should the author not be able to provide her/his paper in either
PDF or PS format, then four copies of the paper should be mailed
to:
Prof. H.-J. Sebastian
